Hi everyone, this is Wilda (Melanie’s mom) – Wanted y’all to know that Mike’s surgery went well. He had Meckel’s Diverticulum which only affects 2% of the world’s population, and 98% of those never have any symptoms or issues with it. The ones who do, typically present symptoms as young toddlers!
They have removed the growth and surrounding infection, and have irrigated the inside of his stomach cavity. He has a vertical incision, similar to one from an emergency c-section. He is still in a good amount of pain, but we are told this is quite normal. He is getting morphine for the pain. He will have about a week’s stay in the hospital, and about 6-8 week recovery at home. I am taking the night shift tonight here at Melanie’s place; the other set of grandparents had the kids earlier today. Good thing we all live within a stone’s throw of one another! Melanie and Mike appreciate all the prayers and good thoughts from everyone; it is great to have such support at a time like this.
